Barcelona have confirmed Lamine Yamal did indeed suffer an ankle injury during Sunday’s shock defeat to Leganes in La Liga.
The teenager looked to be struggling in the first half, and seemed to indicate he wanted to come off, but ended up playing 75 minutes of the game.
Hansi Flick’s assistant Marcus Sorg confirmed afterwards that Yamal would undergo tests and Barca now say he has been ruled out of action for several weeks.
Here’s the club’s statement:
“The first team player Lamine Yamal received a blow to the right ankle during the game against CD Leganés on Sunday.
“Tests carried out on Monday have revealed that the player has a grade 1 injury to a ligament in the ankle. The player is expected to be out for 3 to 4 weeks.”
The news means that Yamal will miss Barcelona’s next game against Atletico Madrid which will be a huge blow to Flick in what is a big game. Atletico and Barcelona both head into the match level on points, with Diego Simeone’s side also having a game in hand on the Catalan giants.
Yamal also looks set to miss the Copa del Rey tie with Barbastro at the start of January and potentially the Spanish Super Cup as well.
