Bayer Leverkusen: Everything speaks for Wirtz’s extension – not to FC Bayern

Leverkusen before a coup

Will Bayer Leverkusen pull off the coup of an extension with top player Florian Wirtz? As the “Kicker” reports, everything currently looks like the 21-year-old will sign early for another year until 2028 and will therefore also play for the Werkself in the coming season. A move to FC Bayern in the summer, on the other hand, is considered almost impossible in the industry.

The reason for this is that the people of Munich don’t have the money to make a purchase. For Wirtz, whose market value is estimated at 130 million euros before the Bundesliga update on Friday, a transfer fee in the range of 150 million euros plus x is being traded, which would include a salary of over 20 million euros. If a transfer of this amount were to occur in the future, it would be the third most expensive in football history.

It would be record income for Leverkusen, but Bayer 04 would rather wait another year for it. Replacing a player like Wirtz on an equal basis is almost impossible for the German champions, which is why the club is apparently trying everything to keep the exceptional player at least until 2026. The Wirtz side also signaled that they are very interested in working together next season. The German national player does not depend on the future of coach Xabi Alonso with the Rhinelanders.

Wirtz’s salary, which will then be well into the double-digit million range for the first time in the club’s history, is reportedly not a problem for the Werkself due to the large income from the current Champions League season. These have so far amounted to around 66 million euros; participation in the round of 16 would bring in a further around 10 million euros. All of this leads the magazine to assume that it would be more of a surprise if Wirtz didn’t extend his contract with Leverkusen. The “Kicker” speculates that this may have already happened behind the scenes.
