Storm Dorothea forces the cancellation of classes in El Hierro, Tenerife, La Gomera and areas of La Palma

The Government of the Canary Islands has school activity suspended this Monday on the islands of Tenerife, El Hierro and La Gomera, after the update of the alert from the General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands.

Initially, the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands had suspended classes this Monday, December 16, in El Hierro and La Gomera, but this has been extended. cancellation to the island of Tenerife and part of La Palma.

Classes have been suspended at CEIP Jedey and CEIP Las Manchas, in La Palma, due to the possible interaction of the wind with the ash from the Tajogaite volcano.

Right now, the maximum alert for winds is maintained, with very strong and locally hurricane gusts that could reach 120 km/h, in the municipalities of San Cristóbal de Laguna, Tegueste, Tacoronte, El Sauzal, La Matanza de Acentejo, La Victoria de Acentejo, Santa Úrsula, La Orotava, Los Realejos, San Juan de la Rambla, La Guancha, Icod de los Vinos, Garachico, El Tank, Los Silos, Buenavista del Norte, Santiago del Teide, Guía de Isora and Adeje, as well as a wind alert in Arona, Vilaflor, San Miguel de Abona, Granadilla de Abona, Arico, Fasnia, Güímar, Arafo, Candelaria, El Rosario and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Furthermore, despite the wind and the alert for coastal phenomena, at 2:30 in the morning a canoe arrived with 79 immigrants by their own means to Restinga, El Hierro.
