Seeking Prime Minister capable of holding out for 30 months” : this is what the title of the job description could look like. While a final Council of Ministers of the resigning government is being held on Wednesday, December 11, led by Michel Barnier, Emmanuel Macron promised to appoint a new head of government by Thursday. And the task is not easy.

His qualities? Know the Assembly, know how to get people to work together and create compromises. Because, upon his appointment, this personality will have to bring together the entire republican arc again to launch substantive discussions and define an orientation. Each camp will have to express itself clearly and indicate whether it is ready to participate in this government, whether it only wants to support legislative texts starting with the Budget, and, finally, whether it at least undertakes not to censor the future government, even if it means opposing certain legal texts.

The answers will therefore greatly depend on the identity of the Prime Minister: left and right refusing to participate in a government led by the other camp. “The best for him would be to find a Prime Minister barycenter“, launches members of the presidential camp who are pushing the François Bayrou hypothesis. The latter, moreover, had lunch again with Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday.

As evidence of good faith, non-use of 49.3 is not “in the prerogatives” of Emmanuel Macron, but if the political forces find “an agreement goes in the right direction“, indicated Tuesday the entourage of the Head of State to franceinfo, after the meeting at the Elysée. 49.3 falls under the “prerogatives of the Prime Minister“, but if its non-recourse”provides stability“, the Head of State is in favor of it, specifies this source, while several political leaders have raised the idea that the future government undertakes not to resort to 49.3 to force laws through the Assembly national.

In the oppositions, we keep an eye on things. On the left, in particular, the situation is considered frozen.
We can't stay in this in-between“, alarms an NFP deputy. But the socialists reiterate that an agreement like that can only exist with a left-wing Prime Minister. And many fear that the president will once again choose the right, or the center. And an elected environmentalist to warn: “If he appoints Barnier 2, the same thing will happen as for Barnier!

Enough to make Patrick Kanner, president of the PS group in the Senate, guest of Bleu ironic: a “sixth Prime Minister that Mr. Macron is about to appoint in seven years, this will put him in the record books“.
