The palpable emotion of Simon Mignolet after Club Bruges’ victory in the Champions League: “I had chills on the pitch, we are writing a page of history” – Tout le football

Club Brugge has taken another important step towards the next round of the Champions League. The Blauw & Zwart rectified an unfavorable situation against Sporting CP, to achieve a third success in this phase of the league.

With a victory against Sporting CP, Club Brugge was almost assured of competing in the Champions League play-offs. But after just three minutes, things took a turn for the worse. Catamo gave the Portuguese the advantage, which did not prevent Club from taking the three points.

An own goal from Quaresma, on a deflected shot from Tzolis, and the decisive goal from Nielsen in the 84th minute still gave the Club a crucial victory and provisional 14th place in the Champions League standings.

“I had chills on the pitch,” Mignolet said after the match. “To experience this at the age of 36 is truly special. These are moments to cherish. Because this is a page of history that we are making here.”

The Club therefore started badly with this goal conceded quickly, but according to Mignolet, it was not a disadvantage. “It’s better to concede a goal quickly because there’s still plenty of time to come back. We never panicked after that goal.”

“During the half we changed a few tactical aspects, which allowed us to gain the upper hand in the second half.” After Nielsen’s goal, the Club suffered, but kept its result. “We played maturely until the end,” smiled Mignolet.
