An alcoholic man died after falling into the ice-cold water of the Tamina in Bad Ragaz SG, but was rescued.

An alcoholic man fell into the ice-cold water of the Tamina on the village promenade in Bad Ragaz SG yesterday, Saturday evening. The man was lucky in misfortune: various emergency services were quickly on site and fished the 66-year-old out of the river.

According to a statement from the St. Gallen cantonal police, the man fell into the canalized river in the dark after eight o’clock on Sunday evening. According to the hydrological data on the canton’s website, the water temperature was 3 to 4 degrees. The air temperature was also in this winter range.

Thanks to a third person who noticed the dangerous mishap and alerted the emergency services, the senior got off lightly. In addition to patrols by the cantonal police and fire brigade, rescue and river rescue were also in action.

After being rescued, the man was taken to hospital for a check-up. The police have not yet provided any further information about the unlucky raven and how it fell into the river.
