Interviewed on BFMTV, MP Aurore Bergé castigated senior civil servant Lucie Castets, shortly after President Emmanuel Macron's televised intervention on December 5.

The motion of censure adopted against the government was voted by the Assembly on December 4. Prime Minister Michel Barnier therefore presented his resignation, as well as that of his government. The President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron spoke after this major political event. He notably declared that he would appoint a new Prime Minister in the coming days. Shortly before the appointment of the 73-year-old politician, who was the head of government for three months, the name of Lucie Castets was submitted by the left-wing coalition, which won the last legislative elections.

Interviewed by BFMTV on December 5, Lucie Castets spoke about the reaction of the French president, after the latter's televised intervention. MP Aurore Bergé, who was present on the BFMTV set, was then questioned. She attacked the senior official, declaring: “Look, quite honestly, I didn't expect her to be duplex among us, because I believe that even the forces of the New Popular Front (NFP) have accepted the idea that she was not their candidate to be Prime Minister. This is not to offend him. I don’t know this lady, she might be very good.” Aurore Bergé then recalled that no party had an absolute majority in the Assembly after the resignation of the government.

Emmanuel Macron's speech: Lucie Castets' analysis

Questioned about the declarations made by the Head of State on the evening of December 5, Lucie Castets gave a clear point of view by affirming: “I find that we have a President of the Republic who is 'head of everything', but responsible for nothing.” She also mentioned the comments made by Emmanuel Macron, who declared that the NFP and the RN had “created an anti-republican front” by filing a motion of censure of the government. “I am also extremely shocked by the fact that the President of the Republic declares that the left-wing forces, who voted for censorship, have created an anti-Republican front, when we remember how many Macronist deputies were elected, thanks to the republican dam”, she said in front of the BFMTV cameras.
