a succession of disturbances this week before a drop in temperatures this weekend

The first precipitation will affect the Atlantic regions from Tuesday. Then, from Thursday, the rains will be more widespread. Behind this disturbance, cool air will hit on Sunday, causing snowfall in the mountains.

For several days, temperatures have been fluctuating in France. After a very mixed weekend, the mildness is quite widespread this Monday, November 2. The week will be marked by the successive passage of several disturbances, with a strengthening of the wind, and the return of frosts before a cooling of the mercury expected for the weekend.

Drop in mercury and precipitation

A mass of cooler air will gradually reach the country from the northwest. From Tuesday, “we will return to temperatures more in line with seasonal norms”, Christelle Robert, forecaster at Météo-France, tells BFMTV.com.

A first disturbance will first affect then the entire Atlantic coast. “There may be a little snow between Tuesday and Wednesday in the Pyrenees,” specifies Christelle Robert. Showers are also possible locally in the North-East, bringing some potential flakes to the terrain, while the Mediterranean coast remains sunny despite a strong wind.

On Wednesday the weather is generally calm. We observe a notable contrast in temperatures between the West and the East, which is found a little below seasonal norms, with frosts in the East as far as the interior of Provence and in the Massif Central.

Cool air that could bring snow

Thursday will be marked by the return of mild weather, thanks to the passage of a new disturbance, which will affect a large part of the north-west of mainland France. The disturbance will move westward overnight and on Friday it will cross most of the country.

“We will have a fairly deep depression over the British Isles, so there will be wind all the way to France,” explains Christelle Robert, who specifies that this will also bring rain for Saturday.

Behind this disturbance, “much cooler” air arrives in the country on Sunday. Today, temperatures will remain seasonal, and sometimes even a little below. Next Monday will mark a cold snap, also in the South “where it will be 8-9°C compared to around 11°C in the average”, indicates Christelle Robert.

This situation could continue for the day of Tuesday. In any case, even if the forecasts must be refined, “we can say that it will be quite cool next week”, declares the forecaster.

In addition, this cold snap could bring snowfall. “It’s a situation conducive to a snow cover,” underlines Christelle Robert. In fact, precipitation is forecast for Sunday and Monday. Snowflakes are therefore to be expected in the Alps and the Pyrenees but also “at lower altitudes such as in the Vosges or on the Massif Central”.
