Next Saturday, December 7, Notre-Dame Cathedral will reopen its doors after five years of restoration work following the fire that ravaged the building. To guarantee the security of the premises, a large-scale system inspired by this summer's Olympic Games will be put in place.
Notre-Dame reopens its doors on December 7 and 8, 2024. The whole world will once again have its eyes fixed on the cathedral. A ceremony which, as for the Olympic Games, will be placed under high security. Police officers, gendarmes and Sentinel soldiers will be mobilized. Only guests, including around fifty heads of state, will be able to access the cathedral square. The gauge is set at 3,000 people.
The establishment of a so-called “SILT” perimeter (Internal Security and Fight against Terrorism) is planned all around the building. In this area, only people accredited for the visit, residents of the neighborhood and service providers will be authorized. Traffic restrictions are also expected. Some metro stations will be closed, as well as all businesses around the Île de la Cité.
