If the latest news on his state of health is reassuring, Fiorentina midfielder Edoardo Bove caused a huge scare after collapsing on the pitch at the Artemio Franchi stadium at the start of the Serie A match against Inter Milan, Sunday in Florence. A terrible moment of worry for this young Italian player who did all his skills in Rome, his city.
Edoardo Bove and his close friends would have been happy with a note (even a bad one) this Monday morning in the Italian newspapers. If the Fiorentina midfielder occupies the front page of the media, it is because he caused great concern after collapsing on the pitch in the 16th minute of the Serie A match against Inter. Immediately taken care of, he was better this Monday morning according to the Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio who gave reassuring news on his state of health: “He is currently awake and lucid, and responding to questions. Any neurological or cardiac dysfunction has been excluded.”

Author of 3 goals in Serie A
Good news and hope for the players and employees of Fiorentina who feared the worst on Sunday late afternoon. Aged 22, Edoardo Bove is a central midfielder who moved to Florence this summer, after being loaned by his long-time club AS Roma. Born in Rome, he developed a passion for football and tennis at a very young age. Gifted in both sports, he had to decide and opted for the leather ball. He joined the Louve club at the age of 10.
Nine years later, on May 9, 2021, he made his first appearance in Serie A, launched by Paulo Fonseca, future coach of Lille and AC Milan. Entered into play at the end of the match, this box-to-box and versatile player played 11 minutes against Crotone (5-0). Eleven is also the number of matches he played the following season, this time under the orders of José Mourinho. With the Special One, he reached the final of the Europa League in 2023 (defeat against Sevilla FC) after scoring the only goal in the semi-finals against Bayer Leverkusen. A real achievement for someone who almost never scores (only 3 goals in Serie A).
Mourinho: 'A player who runs everywhere and bites'
More than scoring, Mourinho was counting on Edoardo Bove to plug the gaps and bring his grinta to the middle: “For me, he's a 'sick dog'”, image Jose Mourinho, quoted by L'Equipe. “It's not necessarily the best expression, but he's a player who runs around and bites. He's also a very well-bred boy, he must surely come from a top family. He looks like a player 30 years.” Between the two men, the flow goes well: “He’s a special person for me,” says Bove. “He treats me like he does the rest of the team. If he has something to say to you, he tells you to your face.”
He is not (yet) an Italian international
José Mourinho left AS Roma, the one who went through all the youth selections with Italy except the A, barred by enormous competition for his position, saw his playing time decrease last season. Loaned with an option to buy to Fiorentina this summer (10.5 million euros), the 22-year-old player is smiling again in Florence (11 games, one goal, one assist). On Sunday, his career came to an abrupt end against Inter. While waiting to know if we will see Edoardo Bove again on a football field, his country is enjoying the happiness of knowing he is alive this Monday.
