In a month, transport ticketing in Île-de-France will change profoundly. From January 2, the book of 10 metro or bus tickets at a lower price will disappear. All tickets will now cost 2.50 euros.
But this single price, which penalizes occasional Parisian travelers who do not have a monthly Navigo pass, will however allow travel in all areas and with all modes (metro, RER, Transilien, bus and tram), within a period of 2 hours. And this for a much lower cost for residents of the outer suburbs furthest from Paris.
The only exceptions: this title will not include airports or connections with the bus or tram. But for the bus or tram trip alone (excluding T11, T12 and T13), the ticket will be 2 euros. Are you already getting lost? Here are some questions and answers to help you get your bearings.
Will my old tickets remain valid?
Yes. But be careful, you can only use cardboard tickets or tickets loaded on an Easy pass or a smartphone in the t + zone, that is to say on the metro lines and RER in Paris, as well as in the buses and most trams, like today. The cardboard format remains accepted in 2025. This is also the case for origin-destination tickets purchased to travel on SNCF lines, which will still be valid next year until sold out.
How to obtain future tickets?
The single metro/train/RER ticket can be purchased and loaded onto a smartphone, a Navigo Easy badge (sold for 2 euros) or even a connected watch (Samsung or Apple). These tickets are sold via the IDF Mobilités, Bonjour RATP or SNCF Connect apps.
But be careful, if you plan to use the Navigo Easy which you own, “you will first have to consume all the t + tickets present on the latter (same in your phone) before loading the new metro-train-RER tickets and/or bus-tram tickets,” warns Île-de-France Mobilités.
So if you are traveling beyond Greater Paris and want to have the metro-train-RER ticket in January because it will be more interesting for you, you might as well start liquidating your stock this December.
Is it worth reserving t+ tickets before December 31?
It all depends on the nature of your trips. If you only use the metro, purchasing 30 tickets (maximum quantity) for 1.73 euros on an Easy pass or a smartphone can represent a significant saving (13.10 euros, or 7.80 euros if you opt for for a Liberté +), temporarily escaping the increase to 2.50 euros. If you only take the bus or tram, you will also pay less: 1.73 euros instead of 2 euros.

What will be the cheapest option?
Liberté + allows you to pay 1.99 euros per trip, instead of 2.50 euros. Bonus: connection with a bus or tram is free. And the bus or tram journey costs only 1.60 euros. Concretely: a journey using bus, metro, RER or Transilien will only be charged 1.99 euros, compared to 4.50 euros with an Easy card (debited for a 2 euro bus ticket + a 2.50 euro ticket). That’s a saving of more than 55%!
As for the monthly Navigo, it will increase to 88.80 euros in 2025. This choice will remain wise if you make more than twenty journeys per month. So get to your calculations!
