Several taxis will demonstrate, starting Monday, December 2, in several cities in France. They are protesting against a future loss of purchasing power.
After farmers and civil servants, it is the turn of taxis to mobilize. From Monday, December 2, the largest cities in the country will be affected by mobilizations of approved taxis, which threaten to block certain routes in Paris, Lyon or Marseille, reported TF1 Info.
“The professional taxi federations announce a mobilization aimed at blocking several routes of entry and exit from the Lyon metropolitan area”from 5 a.m., announced the Rhône prefecture, which calls on motorists to change their trips. In Marseille, snail operations should be held, which could lead to “disruptions from early in the morning on the road network”explained the Bouches-du-Rhône prefecture. It is from Tuesday that Parisian taxis should regroup, with a mobilization that could be massive. “I don’t think we’ve ever had a demonstration this big”affirmed the spokesperson for the movement. “The enthusiasm is great. There will be a very big blockage”he added.
Health Insurance reduces its expenses
The main subject of the event concerns the new agreement currently being negotiated which must link taxis approved by Health Insurance for the transport of patients. The signing of this agreement is expected during the month of December. When a taxi is approved, it can carry out medical transport of patients, covered by Social Security. A cost for public accounts that continues to increase. And in a context of seeking savings, Health Insurance plans to reduce its expenses.
This would lead to a drop in purchasing power for taxi drivers. “For short journeys, which constitute a large part of the activities of approved taxis, this new price list results in a significant loss, or even almost zero profitability”judged several approved taxis.
