Kick-off for the 5th day of the Europa League league phase! For this new day occupying the traditional Thursday evening slot, we find Olympique Lyonnais and OGC Nice, our two French clubs involved in the competition. Here is the program.
After two great European evenings dedicated to the Champions League, it's time for the C3, aka the Europa League! As a reminder, during the 4th day, Lyon and Nice, the two French clubs in the running, both came up against their respective opponents, achieving two parity scores (2-2).
OL want to relaunch against Qarabag
Things started very well for Pierre Sage's men. After two first victories, a defeat then a draw on the last day, the Lyonnais are currently in 9th place in the ranking, with a total of 36 teams. In the event of a victory, Lyon could climb into the top 8 clubs, virtually obtaining direct qualification for the rest of the competition.
Undefeated since the 3rd day of the Europa League (1-0 defeat against Besiktas), Les Gones travel to Baku, capital of Azerbaijan, to face FK Qarabag. Far from being favorites in this clash against Lyon, the Azeri club got off to a bad start to their campaign, with three first consecutive defeats, before securing their first victory on the last day.
To watch the match between FK Qarabag and Olympique Lyonnais, tune in this Thursday, November 28 at 6:45 p.m. on Canal+ Foot.
Nice in search of a first European victory
If they display a certain serenity in Ligue 1, the Aiglons are struggling in the Europa League. Currently counting 2 draws and 2 defeats, including a heavy 4-1 against Lazio on the 2nd day, Nice is still looking to secure its first victory of the season on the European scene. After snatching a draw (2-2) against Twente three weeks ago, Franck Haise's men host Glasgow Rangers. Currently in tenth place in the standings, the Scots have only one European defeat – a heavy defeat (4-1) at home against Lyon.
Although it is quite difficult to clearly establish a favorite for this match, there is really no room for doubt on the Nice side: if they want to continue the European adventure, the Aiglons must absolutely win this clash against the Rangers.
The OGC Nice – Glasgow Rangers match can be followed this Thursday, November 28 at 9 p.m. on Canal+.
