Riyadh presents metro project | BRICS, 28.11.24

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has unveiled the design of a metro to be opened in Riyadh, as reported by
Saudi Press Agency.

The metro will consist of six lines. According to the plan of the city authorities, it should become the basis of public transport of the Saudi capital. The length of the lines will be a total of 176 kilometres.

Minister of State, Member of the Council of Ministers, and Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) Chief Executive Ibrahim bin Muhammad Al-Sultan said that the metro project will dramatically change the image of Riyadh and improve the transport system for both residents and tourists. The network will begin its work gradually.

Al-Sultan stated that the new transport project aims to create an efficient and sustainable public transport system to meet the needs of the rapidly growing city.

The project has taken into account key factors such as analysing car traffic and direction of travel, which will enable efficient distribution of passenger flows. The developed metro will also help reduce congestion, cut fuel consumption and reduce pollution.
