ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The warmest part of Thanksgiving will likely be the food on the table at many gatherings as air temperatures plunge in many areas of mainland Alaska.
Over the Panhandle, two winter weather advisories will be in effect for Petersburg and Hyder as Thursday is underway. Petersburg could see 4 to 6 inches of snow and 8 to 11 inches of snow for Hyder into Thanksgiving evening.
Sub-zero temperatures will be over the interior, North and Western portions of the state, and clear skies due to high pressure.
Strong winds will impact the Aleutian Chain and Pribilof Islands. East and North winds will range from 20 to 50 miles per hour.
Gusty winds should also be anticipated in Kodiak to Prince William Sound. Valdez and surrounding areas will see gusts hit 60 mph. Winds will also pick up Thursday in the Susitna Valley, with gusts up to 35 mph in Wasilla and Palmer.
Hot spot for Alaska Monday was Cold Bay with 45 degrees and the cold spot was Arctic Village with a temperature of 38 degrees below zero!
