The host of M6 and W9 made his debut on stage with Un Avenir Radieux, a boulevard comedy in which the existence of a businessman who sees everything smiling is joyfully mistreated by the predictions of a clairvoyant. We talk about it with the main interested party who will perform in Vittel on the 1stᵉʳ December.

A Radiant Future marks your debut in the theater. What made you decide to get started?

I've been offered plays for a while… and I've always been afraid to do it, due to lack of confidence in myself or in my memory. A producer (Jérôme Foucher, director of the Grands Théâtres) and a director (Olivier Macé) were a little more convincing than the others. I was told to forget my doubts about memory and go for it. I accepted, on one condition: if things went badly, I let them go straight away! And everything went very well! It's a very nice experience.

How would you describe this Bright Future ?

It's a boulevard play in its purest tradition, with doors slamming and replicas flying. The proof, it’s funny with every line! The springs are quite classic but are familiar to everyone: we don't come there to worry, but to have a good time. You will not find any vulgarity there. We are in the purest tradition of pieces with Jacqueline Maillan, Michel Roux or Jean Lefebvre.

I tried to put myself in the shoes of the actors I saw when I was a kid.

The comic register of the piece spoke to you, obviously?

I immediately saw that the piece was effective. I knew most of the cast, it's a beautiful production… It's the theater I like, the one I grew up with and that I watched in the show Au théâtre ce soir. I tried to put myself in the shoes of all these actors I saw when I was a kid. As I'm discovering the profession a little, I have this reflex to mimic characters that I've seen here and there, in certain scenes. I worked in the same way when I started radio at fourteen: I first looked at what others were doing to learn the profession. This is how I move forward. It allows me to work in complete relaxation.

What did this experience teach you?

When I started, I wondered what I was going to do with my arms! In television, we are rarely filmed in person, we always have a microphone, cards… I found lots of little subterfuges which I am now rid of. This reassured me about the positioning of the body and the voice. It just gives you confidence! I have the chance to realize all my childhood dreams: I have done radio, television, concerts, theater… there, the instant contact with the public is very galvanizing. The play has been running for a year and a half, we will have done two seasons and we are still having a lot of fun! And I have already embarked on another play (Coup de bluff au cabaret, with Frank Leboeuf). I really want to continue on this path if I am given the opportunity.
