Manises CF faces a double challenge tonight: beating Getafe in the Copa del Rey and saving the continuity of its coach, Santi Marín. This was confirmed by the president of the club, Manuel Regalado.who informed the coach last Sunday that his permanence depends on the result. The two spent half a day on Radio Marca Valencia.
“The decision has been made a long time ago”Regalado said, although he denied that information was leaked from within the club. The president explained that the main objective is promotion to the Third Division, something that he considers incompatible with the results obtained in recent months: “The objective is direct promotion with the squad he has” [el Manises tiene un partido menos y si gana estaría a un punto de la promoción].
The coach, however, has the opportunity to reverse the situation. “If they beat Getafe, they will continue until the end,” said Regalado. Furthermore, the president highlighted the importance of the coach in the evolution of the team: “I am super grateful. “Santi Marín has taken Manises to where it is now, but this is football.”
Santi Marín, for his part, recognized the difficulty of the situation, although he also took it with humor: “After Sunday training Manolo [el presidente] He informs me of the dismissal after the game against Getafe, unless I beat Getafe, which would allow me to be in the next round of the Cup… we could be until the Super Cup.” Although he does not share the decision, he showed respect for Regalado's position: “The expiration date has been set by the president based on his reasons. “You have to respect it, even if you don't share it.”
The coach lamented the club's changing approach: “Last year there were no clear objectives, and even so we fought for promotion and won a Cup title that has allowed us to get here.” However, he knows that the current objective is clear: “Go up to Third. “That can be achieved as champions or through a promotion phase.”
Marín has worked intensely for the team to compete against Getafe. “I gave them concrete data. It is a team with very close lines, which defends in 35-38 meters. “We are not going to give up our principles,” he commented on the strategy for the meeting.
The coach was also motivated by the challenge of facing a First Division team.: “To think that Bordalás has wasted a minute preparing for a Manises game fills me with pride.”
In addition, Marín highlighted the support of the fans: “Playing at home, with 4,000 people cheering, is an exciting challenge.”
For the president, the night is crucial not only for the Cup, but for the future of the club: “I don't throw stones at my own roof. If we win, we continue. But we cannot afford another lost year.”
