Former communist deputy André Lajoinie died at the age of 94

“Immense sadness at the announcement of the death of André Lajoinie”wrote the national secretary of the Communist Party, Fabien Roussel, on the social network “We have lost a man of great humanity”adds the communist leader.

André Lajoinie died at the age of 94. Son of Corrèze peasants and PCF candidate in the 1988 presidential election, he had been for more than half a century a “device man” devoted to his party. The deputy notably chaired the communist group in the National Assembly between 1981 and 1993.

In 2002, at age 72, he threw in the towel and decided not to run again. “I'm not tired. But it wouldn't be serious. I have a high idea of ​​the role of elected official, and I'm not a rentier”he had justified.

“MP, leader of the PCF, André was a fierce defender of the working class”greeted Senator Ian Brossat on X. “He had the love of people deep in his heart”he further underlined.
