Tiger Woods (USA), the “ Emperor,” expressed his intention not to attend the Hero World Challenge, an event hosted by his foundation.

Woods said on his social network service (SNS) on the 26th (Korea Standard Time), “I’m disappointed, but I can’t participate in this year’s tournament. I will be faithful to my role as the organizer of the competition,” he said. This year’s Hero World Challenge will be held at Albany Golf Course (par 72) in New Providence, Bahamas, for four days from Dec. 6. The event, which first started in 2000, is where only 20 players including top-ranked players, champions of major competitions, and invited players participate. Woods made his comeback through this tournament whenever there were various injuries. However, after undergoing additional surgery to reduce back pain in September, he seems to have expressed his intention not to participate in the tournament, judging that he is not yet at the level of playing.

Woods played only five PGA Tour tournaments this year, and the last official tournament was the D-Open Championship in July. The absence also made it unclear whether Woods will participate in the PNC Championship, a family golf event to be held from the 19th to the 22nd of next month. Woods has consistently played in the PNC Championship with his son Charlie since 2019.
