LTuesday’s strike in the schools of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation is probably “the start of a fight which will be long”, estimated the general secretary of the CSC Enseignement, Roland Lahaye, on the airwaves of La Première. “It’s been a long time since I’ve seen such spontaneous mobilization from teams and schools,” said the unionist. Schools usually resistant to strikes are practically at a standstill, “because all the teachers feel concerned and are aware of the breakdown that is being predicted in education”.
Luc Toussaint, community president of the CGSP Enseignement also spoke on LN24 of a “fairly massive mobilization”.
The outcome of the protest in the coming months will depend on the response provided by the Minister of Education Valérie Glatigny (MR) and the Minister-President Elisabeth Degryse (Les Engagés). “Will they take into account the scale of the movement that is being created today? », asked Roland Lahaye.
A meeting was planned between Valérie Glatigny and the unions on Tuesday morning, as is the case at regular intervals, but the CSC will not attend, preferring to stand alongside the striking teachers. Roland Lahaye is not kind to the Azur government (MR-Engagés) and Minister Glatigny. “The consultation she is talking about is not what we have been used to in education for years. In six months, she alienated everyone,” he says.
CSC Teaching dissociated from the Engaged
The CSC Enseignement, according to Mr. Lahaye, no longer has any links with Les Engagés (the former PSC then cdH). “I suggest to Elisabeth Degryse that she take a dictionary and find the definition of the word social. The Engaged play a dangerous game by taking measures that we never imagined could one day be in their heads. »

Qualifying education: an uncertain future for students and teachers
Through Tuesday’s action, the unions in common front intend to denounce the savings that the new MR-Engaged majority will, according to them, impose on education. They take a dim view of the end of the status of teachers in favor of permanent contracts (CDI); and fear a reduction in resources for qualifying education.

Attention teachers, flammable material…
The status of teachers guarantees each citizen equitable access to the teaching service, explained Luc Toussaint on LN24. With the use of permanent contracts, he fears an evolution in the sector towards “business schools” in competition with each other. “There will be winning schools and losing schools, and the children who are in the losing schools will lose too. We cannot accept that: it is undemocratic. »
