Olivier de Kersauson, navigation legend, found love and serenity alongside Sandra, a discreet Polynesian. He was the guest of Laurent Delahousse on “8:30 p.m. on Sunday” on France 2.
This November 24, Olivier de Kersauson was in the spotlight on France 2 in the program “8:30 p.m. on Sunday” presented by Laurent Delahousse. The famous 80-year-old navigator has just published “Before memory fades, some maritime remarks” with Editions du Cherche Midi.
A meeting under the Polynesian sun
It was in Polynesia, Sandra's native land, that Olivier de Kersauson found love. After a love affair with Florence Arthaud and a first marriage with Caroline Piloquet-Verne, he met Sandra, younger than him and preferring the tranquility of her paradise islands. Their religious wedding took place on a Polynesian atoll, a year after their civil union in Brest.
Sandra, although discreet, knew how to conquer the heart of the browser. The couple avoids public appearances, but in 2017, they made a rare exception by appearing together at a Ponant company speakers' luncheon at the Le Jules Verne restaurant in Paris. Olivier de Kersauson, usually reserved, even indulged in some confidences in Paris Match: “If you have the chance to meet someone with whom such a crazy experience is possible, in my opinion, you should try it. . »
A love that transcends oceans
For Sandra, Olivier de Kersauson left his native Brittany to settle in the Tuamotus, notably on the small island of Fakarava, where they were married religiously. “Since we have the chance to live a real story, I will try to live it further,” he confided. The navigator, who overcame lung cancer, seems to have found inner peace alongside Sandra.
Before Sandra, Olivier de Kersauson had other loves. He was married to Caroline Piloquet-Verne, the mother of his son Arthur, born in 1980, and had a relationship with Florence Arthaud. Today, he is the grandfather of two grandchildren, whom he has probably already taken to Polynesia, where he seems deeply fulfilled.
Olivier de Kersauson, legend of the sea, found in Sandra a companion who brings him serenity and happiness. Their story, discreet but intense, is a beautiful illustration of the love that transcends oceans and years.
