Colder Days Ahead for Central Illinois

PEORIA (25News Now) -After a mild Sunday afternoon with highs reaching the mid-50s to low 60s, changes are on the way. A warm front is moving through the area this evening, bringing the chance for light rain or drizzle overnight into Monday. While any rain will be very light, some patchy drizzle.

Behind a cold front Monday night, temperatures will take a sharp dip, dropping into the 30s. This marks the start of a much colder stretch, with highs staying below normal through midweek.

The forecast becomes tricky heading into Wednesday and Thanksgiving. A developing system in the southern Plains could bring rain or snow to parts of the area. There’s still uncertainty about the storm’s track and strength, but current trends suggest lower chances for significant snowfall in central Illinois. Most of the snow, if any, would fall south of I-74, with minimal accumulation expected north of that.

The bigger story will be the arrival of Arctic air late in the week. Temperatures are forecast to stay below freezing starting Thanksgiving night, with wind chills dipping into the teens or even single digits. This bitter cold could stick around into early December.
