WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W. Va. — On Sunday night, Pitt fell to Wisconsin 81-75 in a battle at The Greenbrier Tip Off.
Following the loss, Pitt head coach Jeff Capel met with the media, including Pittsburgh Sports Now, to talk about the loss and what he learned about his team in that intense matchup against Wisconsin.
Ishmael Leggett led the Panthers with 17 points in the loss, while Cam Corhen had 16 points and Jaland Lowe added 15. The Panthers surrendered 33 points to Wisconsin star guard John Tonje, who scored 25 alone in the second half on 9-for-11 shooting.
Leggett led the Panthers in rebounding as well, grabbing eight boards. Guillermo Diaz Graham added seven points and eight rebounds in the effort.
Pitt guard Damian Dunn dislocated his thumb and sprained his ankle in the first two minutes of the game, and did not return.
Pitt reserves Zack Austin and Amsal Delalic both performed well off the bench in the loss. Austin had eight points and one rebound, while Delalic went 4 for 4 from the field, including 1 for 1 from three-point range, for nine points. Delalic had perhaps his best play of the game when he swung a pass underneath the basket all the way to the opposite corner for an Austin three pointer.
Pitt shot 50% from the field in the loss, and 22% from three-point range, going just 5 for 23 from deep. 44 of Pitt’s points came in the paint, and they went 12 for 14 on layups and 6 for 6 on dunks.
Pitt will next travel to Columbus, Ohio to take on the Buckeyes on Friday, Nov. 29.
