PHILADELPHIA, PA — On a night that, heading into the season, was expected to be filled with unbridled excitement, the Sixers found themselves on the losing end of a beating by the Los Angeles Clippers.
It didn’t take long for the Clippers to establish dominance over a once again shorthanded Sixers squad. With nearly 40 points in the first quarter alone, the Clippers began the game with the wind in their sails and could hardly miss a shot, especially from deep.
The Clippers have grown into an impressive defensive team as the season continues. The infusion of guard Kris Dunn has…Dunn wonders?… for the squad in the early goings of the season. For a team reliant on the performance of their electric guards, it was clear even before the game that the Sixers had a tough task ahead of them.
The first half was quite the slog, yet Philadelphia was only down 12 at the half. A disastrous third quarter, however, would put the game out of reach well before the final buzzer. Philadelphia was outscored 22-35, struggling mightily on both ends.
Just a few minutes into the fourth, head coach Nick Nurse put in deep reserves Adem Bona and Lester Quinones, and from there, it was a wrap.
Jared McCain’s 20-point streak comes to an end
All good things come to an end, much like that was the case for the Sixers’ winning pace, so it was also for Jared McCain’s 20-point streak.
After seven consecutive games scoring 20 or more points per game, McCain finished with just 18 points, ending one of the few positive stories for Sixers fans.
