However, the exit poll does not include the vote from the Diaspora. The second round will take place on December 8 between the first two places.

Călin Georgescu, studies in security and national defense

Călin Georgescu, independent presidential candidate, is an engineer by profession. He stated in his CV that he graduated from the Agronomic Institute in Bucharest and that he has a Master’s degree in Land Improvement, both during the Ceaușescu regime (1980-1986).

He also wrote in his CV that he has a doctorate in Pedology, obtained in 1999 at the University of Agronomy in Bucharest. At the same time, he has studies in national security and defense within the National Defense College (2007).

Before the Revolution, he was employed as an agronomist engineer at an enterprise in Făgăraş, Braşov county, news.ro reported.

In the 90s, he was head of the senatorial office for the Environment and advisor to the Minister of the Environment, and later led the NGO Asociatia Tineretului Ecologist from Romania (TER). In the CDR government of the 90s, he became secretary general of the Ministry of the Environment, and in the 2000s he held positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and at the UN in the field of environmental conservation.

Călin Georgescu praised Corneliu Zelea Codreanu and Ion Antonescu, and the relationship with George Simion broke down

Politically, his name was circulated for the first time in the public space in the spring of 2012, when he should have become prime minister after the fall of the Boc Government, but he was not appointed.

After the tragedy at Colectiv, which led to the fall of the Ponta Government, he was again proposed as prime minister by several public figures with nationalist views, led by the actor Dan Puric, but again he was not appointed.

In January 2022, shortly after he was made honorary president by the AUR party, Călin Georgescu said that the legionnaire leader Corneliu Zelea Codreanu and Marshal Ion Antonescu “also did good deeds” and that they can be considered heroes and martyrs.

The General Prosecutor’s Office opened a criminal case for promoting the cult of people guilty of genocide and war crimes, but nothing has been heard since then.

The relationship between Călin Georgescu and George Simion deteriorated after the statements of the president of the AUR in February 2022: “I ask him to clarify his position and clarify these things because if you want to do the politics of the future, not of the past, you have to talk about projects for the country . If he does not clearly clarify his ideology and if he does not clearly delimit himself from any past movement that AUR has nothing to do with, he must go.” Later, Georgescu accused Simion of actually supporting the PSD.

Călin Georgescu was obliged by BEC, three days before the presidential elections, to delete from the net electoral promotion materials without an identification code, but this did not happen again.

On November 21, the Central Electoral Bureau accepted a complaint filed by a citizen who complained that Georgescu was distributing electoral propaganda materials on Facebook and Tik Tok that did not contain the unique identification code received from the Permanent Electoral Authority (CMF).

“I declared from the beginning of the campaign, through a public message, that I will not accept to be identified with a code, as long as my name is Călin Georgescu. So the BEC could report on this aspect from the beginning of the electoral campaign. The fact that there is no promotion or, as the case may be, sponsorship, respectively the settlement of any amount, makes the decision of the BEC null and void in that it represents nothing more than an attempt to intimidate me and the Romanian People”, Călin Georgescu defended himself.
