Real Madrid succeeded in its mission: to win to come within four lengths of the Barcelona leader. The Madrilenians easily disposed of Leganes (0-3) thanks to the Vini-Mbappé duo.
After the demonstration against Osasuna (4-0) on the 13th day, Real continued its good momentum this Sunday against Leganes. If the club from the Madrid suburbs had managed to keep a clean sheet at home to Athletic Bilbao in September, they failed to do so this time.
Mbappé in form
It was a very leggy and provocative Kylian Mbappé on the left wing who lit the first embers of a goal rightly flagged offside, after being served by Vinicius Jr (10th). An alert to which El Haddadi responded by putting his ball on the bar of Thibault Courtois, but he also signaled offside (21st). After several alerts from Arda Güler (24th, 39th), it was Mbappé who broke the Leganes barrier. Thanks to good joint pressing from Eduardo Camavinga and Jude Bellingham on Altamira, the Englishman stole the ball from the Spanish defender and launched Vinicius deep. Alone against Dmitrovic, the Brazilian handed it to the Frenchman who was able to finish in the empty goal (43rd, 0-1). Mute for four matches, Mbappé is back on track.
The collective at work
In the second period, Real purred for around twenty minutes before accelerating around the hour mark. It was the captain of the evening, Federico Valverde who protected the Merengue from a powerful strike on free kick, 20 meters to the left of the area (65th, 0-2). Güler then missed the third pawn and Mbappé won his face-to-face with Dmitrovic (81st). Jude Belligham drove the point home with a fox header from the surface following a strike from Brahim Diaz, deflected by Tapia onto the crossbar (85th, 0-3).
Never worried, Carlo Ancelotti's men (2nd, 30 pts) performed well and came back to within four points of the Barcelona leader (1st, 34 pts), held in check the day before against Celta Vigo. Now head to Liverpool for the Madrilenians who must face the Reds on Wednesday for the 5th day of the Champions League.
