Virginie Grimaldi is one of the successful novelists in France. The author, very discreet about her private life, is invited on the show A Sunday in the countryside this November 24.
Virginie Grimaldi has become one of the authors to sell millions of copies in France with her successful novels: The scent of happiness is stronger in the rain, It's high time to light up the stars again, which was crowned favorite book of the French in 2022 on France 2 or even When our memories come dancing. This Sunday, November 24, the author is invited in the 50th issue of Frédéric Lopez's show: A Sunday in the countryside broadcast on France 2.
On the private side, Virginie Grimaldi married in 2009 with a man she met in Toulouse named Arnold. They remarried in 2023, because, as the writer said: “After 18 years, we are sure we want to do the walker race together.” Together, the couple went through both great happiness and great sorrow. Indeed, in 2010, they faced a terrible event. While Virginie Grimaldi is pregnant with her first child, the author no longer feels him moving in her belly. After an ultrasound, the midwife announces to the couple the loss of their child. “ He searches, he searches, he searches, and at one point, I look down at Arnold (her husband, editor's note) and I see him crying. And then I understand,” she declared on the microphone of Bliss Stories before adding: “The sky fell on my head (…) At 6:10 p.m., he was born and they took him away. Not a sound (…) It’s hard, coming home with an empty stomach and empty arms.” After this tragedy, Virginie Grimaldi and her husband became parents of two boys. The first was born in 2012 and the second was born prematurely in 2019. “It remains a traumatic experience, even though today my child is doing very well”she explained to Parisian in 2020.
Virginie Grimaldi: “It’s the book in which there is the most of me”
Virginie Grimaldi had to face another significant event. In 2023, his father, suffering from Alzheimer's disease, died. On the occasion of the release of his novel, Bigger than the sky, that she wrote following the death of her father, Virginie Grimaldi had confided on France Inter : “It’s the book in which there is the most of me,” she declared. She continues: “The pain is still intense. When she grabs me, I feel like it's splitting my chest open and I'm never going to get up again (…) I don't know how we live with absence, I can't do it Again “.
