VIDEO. “Scandal!” The enormous fright of a ski jumper hit by an advertising billboard and thrown into the void

the essential
Cold sweats for Norwegian ski jumper Kristoffer Eriksen Sundal, who had barely settled in to start a qualifying event.

An – almost innocuous – qualifying event for the world ski jumping circuit, which Kristoffer Eriksen Sundal will undoubtedly remember for a long time.

The Norwegian champion, competing for the qualifiers for the Lillehammer stage (Norway), was, despite himself, the protagonist of a very unusual scene. As the 23-year-old ski jumper prepares to start one of his events – seated at the top of the springboard – a mobile advertising board moves behind him, without stopping.

Kristoffer Eriksen Sundal was hit in the back, then pushed forward. Then begins, against his will, the dizzying descent of the 140 meter long track.

Calm, the ski jumper does not give in to panic and begins his jump almost as if nothing had happened. Conclusion ? Kristoffer Eriksen Sundal jumped 132 meters, and was thus ranked among the best performances of the day!

However, he did not hide his anger once at the bottom of the track. A sentiment shared by his country's media, Verdens Gang, which headlines: “Scandal during ski jumping qualifications in Lillehammer!”

According to the media, the Norwegian ski boss spoke of a “serious incident which we will evaluate very thoroughly with the International Federation after the competition, in order to clarify what really happened. […] Nothing is more important than the safety of athletes.”
