Le Voyageur ( 3) – Bruno Debrandt talks about the dog Emy: “In reality, his name is Maïko…”

In the opening, Kandinsky practices crossbow shooting. You didn't hurt anyone?

Bruno Debrandt: No… I am from the “Guillaume Tell generation”. I've already trained in all kinds of thrown weapons.

You, maybe, but he doesn't really seem up to it…

Indeed, it is a real compositional role. I had to pretend not to know.

In any case, the Traveler does not seem in any hurry to get back on the roads. Need to breathe?

We kept his DNA: why he abandoned his previous life… With this post-Covid feeling, where we started to dream of a world with a different rhythm, with a permanent need to think about ” happy sobriety”, which the writer Pierre Rabhi spoke about. That is to say, do things only necessary, and not because you have a need to consume.

What will convince him to cross from east to west?

He may be in an exploration of contemplation, but he is still invested with this mission: to track down the real bad guys. It's stronger than him. He learns that a mother is on hunger strike to push the authorities to resume research into her daughter's disappearance. So, it would be unbearable for him not to act in the face of the desperate gesture of this woman, consumed by a feeling of injustice.

“The Dog Emy is called Maïko”

The Traveler is also his dog, Emy, an actor in his own right. Particularly in a scene where he expresses his sadness, when the dog of a deceased woman, who died of grief, is buried…

A magnificent scene. The dog serves as a parable about connections. We are truly at the heart of what drives humans.

“When I go to play, I know we’re going to act stupid…”

What is your relationship like with your four-legged partner?

In reality, his name is Maïko. With him and Valérie Récher, our animal impregnator, we work regularly to maintain a play link. As with an actor, we do a kind of set-up, with emotional guidelines and positioning. Then, the two of us – all three of us, with Valérie – play our sequences. It creates a great bond. The dog, when he comes to turn, it's as if he's going to summer camp. As soon as he sees us arriving, he gets excited, because he knows he's going to have fun all day. For me, it's the same. When I go to play, I know we're going to act stupid…

Another new episode will be broadcast soon. Can we find out more?

At first you might think that the road ends for the Traveler. The police summon him, telling him that his special status is disturbing. For us, it was precisely important to ask the question in terms of ethics. For example, does he have the right to be armed, despite being on leave from the police? In this context, Macena (Maëlle Mietton), his protector, will confide in him about a personal tragedy. This will enlighten us on the reasons why they recognize themselves in each other.
