After Guyana, in 2023, the 30 candidates for the title of Miss France are entitled this year to a week of preparatory travel to Abidjan, in Ivory Coast, under the sign of “discovery, adventure, immersion”summarizes Frédéric Gilbert, the president of the Miss France Society, determined to break the cliché of beauty queens cut off from reality. But alongside these strong emotions which create cohesion, the objective is to prepare for the big show at the Arena Futuroscope, broadcast live on TF1 next Saturday December 14, which will see Eve Gilles, Miss France 2024, transmit his crown to one of them.
To coach them, Frédéric Gilbert had the idea of asking those who know best what these regional Misses suddenly propelled in front of millions of viewers feel: two ex-Miss France, Maëva Coucke and Diane Leyre. “The idea came to me during the tribute to Geneviève de Fontenay, where we brought together 40 former Miss. We had to bring them back more often, keep this “Miss France family” alive by playing on the spirit of transmission, which is so important”explains the president of the Miss France Society. For the catwalk masterclass – the art of parade -, Maëva Coucke (2018) was a strong symbol, she who finished 6th in Miss Universe despite a fall, before taking her revenge at Miss World by impressing the jurors with her presence and landing the Top Model Challenge. As for Diane Leyre (2022), whose election speech was notable with its famous punchline “adopt me”she now gives conferences on self-confidence and speaking out. “When I called them, they said yes within 30 seconds”reveals Frédéric Gilbert.
“When advice comes from a Miss France, we take it into account”
Elegant in a white playsuit and (necessary) purple rhinestone high heels, Maëva Coucke met the Misses under a poolside kiosk for her carwalk masterclass. From the outset, she offers familiarity and calms anxiety by showing images of her fall at Miss Universe. Because falling – and how to get up from it – is one of the three points she has chosen to work on, along with posture and attitude. She even teaches the… “fall stand-up”, or how to get back up in a dress and heels, with a demonstration to back it up. In the questions and answers then each person's parade, Miss France 2018 plays to the fullest with interactivity and caring honesty. “When I prepared my lesson, I told myself that they had to participate. I don't impose a vision, I'm more like a big sister who gives advice, from which they will do what they want. But when advice comes from a Miss France, who has been there, we take it into account”judge Maëva, who “loved [son] coaching baptism”.
Sculptural in a fuschia suit and high heels, Diane Leyre wants “play until the end” his new role as “professor”. “I’m used to giving conferences, I’m good at speaking… I’ll have to be more of a teacher”she explains five minutes into her first masterclass. Joining the Misses on a terrace with… her friend Maëva to support her, she introduces herself by admitting to being formerly shy. “Eloquence comes down to a breath, a tone”she begins, before asking them to introduce themselves through an anecdote. Then it's a speech reading exercise to work on the different tones, the voice well “projected”. Diane Leyre distils her advice as it comes: “It’s good to add sweetness”, “stress can be positive”… Delivers his “3 P rule” to answer the Top 5 topical question: main point, proof (the example) and final point. Console Miss Côte d'Azur overcome by emotion. Ends up approaching a seat to talk to them “eye to eye” about self-confidence. Kindness, interactivity, real-life examples… more big sister than teacher, ultimately. Like Maëva Coucke
