After Art patron Hermann Beyeler offended the city administration with last year’s Christmas decorations in front of Lucerne’s Einhorn restaurant, one of the controversial elements has been removed this year.

The Lucerne Region Art and Culture Foundation, chaired by Hermann Beyeler, promises “a Christmas miracle that will make children’s eyes shine and warm hearts.” An 8-meter-high Christmas tree is to be placed in front of the Lucerne Restaurant Einhorn on Hertensteinstrasse. A slightly smaller one will be placed towards the Seehof car park.
In addition, a Christmas nativity scene and lots of Christmas decorations are intended to delight passers-by. Beyeler’s foundation also sets up a Christkindli mailbox for the children. She does this in collaboration with the Children’s Paradise Old Town Foundation, chaired by Heidi Rothen. Rothen has been running a Christkindli mailbox like this on Mühlenplatz for 35 years. So now there are two in Lucerne.
Rules about the Christmas tree and snow cannon at the Einhorn Restaurant
If you want to see how the installation in front of the Einhorn Restaurant is switched on, be ready on Saturday evening at half past six on Hertensteinstrasse.
Even before last year’s Christmas, the Christmas decorations at Restaurant Einhorn were a topic of conversation. At that time, Hermann Beyeler had it erected – without permission from the city administration. This year he is not using a snow cannon to make snow on the square – unlike last year (zentralplus reported).
