First Alert Weather: Suncoast temperatures drop

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – The cold front that brought yesterday’s morning showers has now moved south of us. Today, a large area of high pressure will build in behind the departing cold front, ushering in a period of cool, dry weather. Nighttime temperatures will drop to around 50 degrees, with some inland lows in the upper 40s. Skies will be clear and sunny during the day, but highs will struggle to reach 70. This cooler snap will last into next week, when models suggest another cold front will bring a reinforcing shot of cooler air right around Thanksgiving. It should be noted that while it will be much cooler than past days, it will be about normal for this time of year. But by contrast to the well above normal temperatures we have been seeing, the next few days will be a noticeable shift in the weather.

Over the next day or two, the winds will be breezy and gusty. While not terribly strong, the gusts will exceed 20 mph, and a Small Craft Advisory will be in effect. Winds will begin to slacken by the time we get to the weekend.

Dry air will make it feel very dry if you choose to heat your home over the next few mornings. Dew points will fall into the 50s, and when the air is heated into the 70s, the humidity will drop to around 45%. Some may find that dry enough to feel uncomfortable, so be prepared for a few shocks if you wear wool socks. Others will find the lower humidity quite refreshing. Either way, it will stay dry into next week.
