Météo-France places 54 departments on orange alert for snow, ice and wind…

In addition to snow, violent winds are expected in the 200 to 300 km band which will be affected by this depression. According to Météo Ciel records, a maximum gust was recorded at 6 a.m. in Ouessant, in Finistère. 128 km/h were also recorded at Pointe du Raz.

Due to snowfall, the speed limit is lowered by 20 km/h in Ile-de-France for all vehicles. This is also the case for trucks in many departments, Brittany and Normandy in particular. And from 11 a.m., in el Cher, Eure, Eure-et-Loir and Loiret. In almost all of these departments, heavy goods vehicles weighing more than 7.5 tonnes are also prohibited from overtaking on many roads (this will be the case from 11 a.m. in the Paris region).

In many departments in the west of France, school transport is suspended. This is the case of four Normandy departments (Calvados, Eure, Manche and Orne), in Eure-et-Loir, or even in Sarthe or Mayenne. Regional train traffic is also severely disrupted in several departments, particularly in the South-West.

In its 6-hour bulletin, Météo France placed 54 departments on orange alert, including 33 for icy snow, mainly in the northern part of the country and in the Alps, and 21 for wind, from Loire-Atlantique to Gironde then on a line going to Savoie.
