-Floyd County Emergency Management-
Windy conditions are expected to continue through Thursday, as several of your agencies have already been responding to reports of trees and power lines down.
Some parts of Floyd County received 5 inches of rain between late Monday and Tuesday, while here in Rome our office documented 4.5 inches.
This heavy amount of rainfall has resulted in saturation of soil and ponding in several areas; 24 hours later that water is now beginning to present itself again as it exits into our rivers.
The National Weather Service has reported to us that sustained winds should be expected between 12-15 mph with gusts as high as 32 mph on Thursday. It is reasonable to expect that there will likely be an increase in trees falling and pulling down power lines, potentially blocking roads or cutting power in areas.
These conditions will remain with us into Friday and Saturday as the windchill will drop into the low 30s. The actual temperature is not expected to drop below 36 degrees.
If you need to report a power outage at your home or elsewhere, please contact Georgia Power via their outage portal: https://outagemap.georgiapower.com/
