The SNCF proposed on Wednesday a salary increase of 2.2% on average in 2025 for all railway workers, but made the application of certain measures conditional on the signing of the agreement by at least two unions out of four, announced the direction.
“For the fourth consecutive year, we are going to have an average increase in railway workers above inflation,” management underlined during a briefing with journalists.
The average increase will be 0.7 points above inflation, forecast at 1.5% according to the Banque de France.
“This not only protects, but even improves the purchasing power of railway workers,” said management.
These increases include seniority-related advancements and individual increases of 1.7%, while the overall salary increase will be 0.5%.
The working bonus for railway workers will also be increased by 15 euros per month. The agreement is subject to signature before November 29.
Two unions must sign it for the general increase measure (+0.5%) and that of 15 euros extra per month to be applied, management underlined.
“We ended this period of high inflation which manifested itself in a 17% increase in salaries against inflation which stood at 13%” over the period, recalled management.
These significant salary increases, after years of freezing, have made it possible to raise the group's lowest salaries which are now at the level of the minimum wage plus 10% minimum, or 1,580 euros net.
“It's not up to par”, reacted to AFP the federal secretary of Sud-Rail Fabien Villedieu, recalling that “the SNCF is the most profitable railway company in Europe”.
The CFDT-Cheminots indicated in a leaflet that it had “entered these negotiations with a clear issue: to fight against the wage freeze”, which it obtained.
All unions will now consult their members before reaching a position.
A strike call is planned for Thursday at the SNCF, the day after these obligatory annual negotiations, but unrelated to the question of wages, assure the union organizations.
SNCF management also decided to no longer hold these salary negotiations in November. From next year, they will take place at the end of the first quarter, just after the publication of the company's annual results.
