The mayor of Marseille deplored on BFMTV this Tuesday, November 19, the contribution requested from communities in the finance bill for 2025. Announced at 5 billion euros, this “bleeding” could be revised downwards.
On the sidelines of the opening of the congress of mayors, this Tuesday, November 19 in Paris, Benoît Payan, various left-wing councilor from Marseille, denounced on BFMTV a “bleeding” concerning the reduction in the budget of local authorities announced in the finance bill for 2025.
“It's not fair”
A contribution of “five billion euros” is requested from communities, including three billion from the 450 largest in this bill. “It’s not an effort that we’re being asked to make, it’s bloodletting worthy of the 18th century,” the mayor declared on BFMTV, before explaining the consequences for his metropolis.
“Next year, if the budget were to be voted on as it stands, the city of Marseille would be short 50 million euros,” indicates Benoît Payan, an amount which corresponds, according to him, to the entirety of the salaries of all municipal police officers, full meals for children and the construction of one school per year, he lists.
“I won't do it, I can't bring myself to do it, it's not possible, it's not fair,” he laments, denouncing a measure taken “blindly”.
A reduction envisaged by the Senate
Regarding the discussion of the finance bill, the examination of which begins next week in the Senate, Gérard Larcher, president of the institution indicated, to the JDD, that he wanted to reduce this “effort” from 5 to 2 billion euros. “On two billion euros, we are ready to discuss,” replied the councilor.
Adding: “Provided that it is not done blindly. It is the mayors who hold the Republic up and, today, when it is going badly, who are we attacking? The municipal budgets. “
Like the mayor of Marseille, many local elected officials have expressed their anger at this reduction in the budget of local authorities. Guest of BFMTV and RMC, this Tuesday, November 19, 2024, the mayor “Les Écologists” of Lyon, Grégory Doucet also expressed his anger, denouncing a deadly project.
