A former coach puts Tedesco in his place: “No more excuses!” – All football

Georges Leekens must laugh when Domenico Tedesco says that “it’s typically Belgian to be so negative”. The former national coach has experienced much worse things.

Georges Leekens was particularly confronted with “tensions between Walloons and Flemings” and “conflicts between Anderlecht and Standard players”. He considers it unfair to always be negative: “For me, it is not fair that everyone is negative,” he declares at Sporza.

The former coach explains that the criticism from Belgian football fans is understandable, because they simply want “not to fall that low”. He added: “As a national coach, you must be able to handle this criticism. Ask yourself questions, instead of constantly looking for excuses…”

The former national coach expressed his concerns about the situation after the Euros, saying: “It’s a shame how everything has gone since the Euros. Germany has come out of its crisis period, the Bas almost overtakes us again… It’s high time to get our act together.”

Regarding the future of Domenico TedescoLeekens remained cautious. He indicated that his former boss Vincent Mannert “could instill the winning spirit into the national football team again.”

However, Leekens stressed that, should another national coach arrive, he would have to “start soon” given the four to five months of preparation time needed for such a “hell of work”.
