Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: Tom Cruise is the victim of an unprecedented conspiracy.
The new Steven Spielberg will be released in cinemas in… 2026! And eight years after Ready Player One, the filmmaker is once again tackling science fiction. It must be said that this type suits him perfectly. Among the best SF of his career, there is obviously Minority Report.
Want another TV tip for tonight? We recommend this French comedy in which a young boy is the nightmare of all the teachers… and of Elie Semoun!
Released in theaters in 2002, this masterpiece takes place in Washington, in 2054. Hidden in the heart of the Department of Justice, three security professionals capture the warning signs of homicidal violence thanks to a powerful prevention and detection system. and repression. And then, they send the images to their controller, John Anderton (Tom Cruise).
But one day the unthinkable happens: the computer sends him back his own image. In less than 36 hours, John Anderton will have murdered a complete stranger. Having become the number one target, the latter must flee. His only hope for foiling the plot: finding his future victim. His only weapon: the enigmatic visions of the most fragile of the Pre-Cogs, Agatha (Samantha Morton).
In the cast of this futuristic feature film, we also find Colin Farrell in the skin of agent Danny Witwer, as well as Kathryn Morris who lends her features to the tormented wife of John Anderton, but also Peter Stormare (Prison Break), Neal McDonough (Desperate Housewives) or Max von Sydow (Shutter Island).
A monument of science fiction
Minority Report is the adaptation of a short story by Philip K. Dick. Contrary to what one might believe, the idea does not come from Steven Spielberg, but indeed from Tom Cruise.
The reason? On the set of Stanley Kubrick's film Eyes Wide Shut, the actor came across this novel and, after reading it, he simply decided to talk to Steven Spielberg.
And the least we can say is that he did well! To date, Minority Report is considered one of the best science fiction films, so much so that the press gave it a score of 4.4 out of 5, while AlloCiné Internet users gave it 4.1 out of 5!
In France alone, the film attracted more than 3.4 million spectators in theaters! In addition, he was nominated for the César, Oscar, BAFTA Awards, as well as the Saturn Awards! Four nominations that say a lot about the success of Minority Report.
Finally, in 2015, Max Borenstein decided to adapt this masterpiece into a mini-series of ten 42-minute episodes. Unfortunately, it was a failure and was canceled by Fox after its first season. Proof that it is difficult to tackle such a monument of cinema…
