A serious cable car accident on a construction site in Val Thorens (Savoie) left six people injured, two of whom were serious, although their prognosis was not serious.

It was 7:30 a.m. this Tuesday, November 19 in the resort of Val Thorens, in Savoie, when the tragedy occurred. In “very difficult weather conditions on site at more than 3000 meters”, “a cabin of the Cime Caron cable car which was used as part of an ongoing construction site and transporting 16 workers, hit the arrival station”, indicates the prefecture in a press release.

The report shows “two people seriously injured without a life-threatening condition and four slightly injured”.

Victims being evacuated

“Significant resources from the departmental fire and rescue service and the Savoie SAMU are committed to caring for the victims. The station’s first aid trackers, the CRS Alpes and the PGHM are also on site,” indicates the prefecture.

The victims and those involved were being evacuated by another gondola late in the morning.

The Savoyard resort of Val Thorens plans to inaugurate its winter season on Saturday. Located at high altitude, it is, along with Tignes, one of the first resorts to open at the arrival of the cold season.
