The Val Thorens resort (Savoie) was the scene of a serious cable car accident this Tuesday, November 19 in the morning. The accident occurred while the cable car was being used by 16 workers as part of a construction site, according to a press release from the Savoie prefecture. The weather conditions being particularly difficult, the cabin would have become stuck in the Cime Caron arrival station.
According to initial information, two people are in serious condition, with no vital prognosis. Four other workers were slightly injured. The CRS Alpes, the Savoie firefighters, the PGHM and the station's first aid trackers are currently on site to carry out an evacuation.
“The prefect of Savoie has activated his crisis management cell, the departmental operational center, and the numerous victims plan (NOVI), in order to coordinate emergency services, in conjunction with the mayors of the municipalities concerned”, specifies the press release. The highest resort in Europe was preparing to open its slopes for the season this Saturday, November 23.
