A cable car accident on a construction site in Val Thorens (Savoie) left six people injured, two of whom were serious. The victims' vital prognosis is not in jeopardy.

A serious workplace accident occurred this Tuesday, November 19 around 7:30 a.m. in the Val Thorens resort, in Savoie, causing several injuries.

In “very difficult weather conditions on site at more than 3000 meters”, “a cabin of the Cime Caron cable car which was used as part of an ongoing construction site and transporting 16 workers, hit the arrival station”, indicates the prefecture in a press release.

The accident left six people injured, two of whom were serious, with no life-threatening injuries.

Victims being evacuated

“All the victims and people involved are being evacuated by the Orelle-Caron gondola,” the press release continues.

“The Prefect of Savoie has activated his crisis management cell, the departmental operational center, and the numerous victims plan (NOVI), in order to coordinate emergency services, in conjunction with the mayors of the municipalities concerned,” the press release continues. .

The departmental fire and rescue service, the Savoie SAMU, the station's first aid trackers, the CRS Alpes and the high mountain gendarmerie platoon (PGHM) are mobilized on site.
