They don't take off. This Monday, November 18, 2024, during the municipal council, a twenty caregivers from the Jacques-Monod hospital a you Pierre-Janet psychiatric centerchallenged the mayor Édouard Philippe.

“We are the poor children of health,” they say in unison in front of the assembly.

At issue: continuing organizational problems, declining staff numbers, and (very) difficult situations such as at the psychiatric center where the management of a patient led to nine work stoppages in one weekend.

“We are here to make ourselves heard by the mayor [également président du conseil de surveillance du Groupe Hospitalier du Havre, ndlr]. He can no longer deny the obvious,” says Mathias Monnier, from the Sud GHH union.

“Psychiatry is in difficulty”

This anger is not new. Since the beginning of the year, Monod's stretcher bearers have been stepping up to denounce the establishment of a new organization. The general secretary of the CGT Sophie Binet also went to the professionals' bedside to support “the exhausted staff”.

A situation also tense in Pierre-Janet due to a “violent and dangerous” patient. A request for placement in a UMD (unit for difficult patients) has been made but this can take several months and during this time, the situation drags on.

This is recalled by a delegation of caregivers from the Le Havre psychiatric hospital.

Psychiatry is in difficulty. The Janet hospital suffers from a lack of staff and a lack of resources. Our letter of October 25 (addressed to Edouard Philippe) remained unanswered. We are awaiting support for this request from UMD. Today, three out of four requests have been refused. There is an emergency, Le Havre psychiatry does not have the means to manage this.

Same speech tinged with seriousness among the stretcher bearers, these “important agents” who travel “several kilometers per day.

“There is a workload of more than 100%, new tasks are assigned. Absenteeism has caused work overload to skyrocket, they indicate. Are we condemned to killing ourselves at work? »

A short answer

The city councilor assured that he did not remember this letter from Janet's caregivers but “will respond to it”. He also undertakes to receive a delegation of stretcher bearers soon.
