Tomorrow, Tuesday, storm “Quiteria” will cause extreme weather conditions in Germany, and even snow is expected. In the lowlands there are widespread squalls, in some places even with hurricane-like strength. There is a risk of hurricane gusts in the summit areas. While heavy rain falls in the middle and south and mild air flows in for a short time with highs of 7 to 12 degrees, it remains wet and cold in the north, as the ntv meteorologists predict. Heavy snow or sleet is already falling there in the morning, which can cause significant disruption to early morning traffic, especially in the Lower Saxony and Hamburg areas.

In the afternoon the focus of snow will shift to the north and northeast, while heavy showers and sleet thunderstorms will move in from the northwest. These spread southwards until the evening and finally reach the Alps. With the cold front, the snow line drops to 300 meters in places, and even to the lowlands in heavy showers.

The week continues wet and cold

Showers and sometimes strong sleet thunderstorms are expected later this week. Snow will also fall above 300 meters on Wednesday. It remains frosty in the higher mountains. From Thursday to Saturday it will be wintry cold and changeable. During the day the maximum values ​​are usually between 1 and 6 degrees. Above 400 to 600 meters there is permanent frost. Nighttime frost causes widespread freezing moisture, and snowdrifts are possible in mountainous areas.

On Sunday there will finally be a change in the weather: in the northern half, stormy winds and longer periods of rain will bring mild air to Germany. Temperatures rise to 7 to 15 degrees. The thaw sets in right up to the high altitudes.

Last weekend it snowed heavily in the Erzgebirge and the Harz Mountains. Webcam images showed the Wurmberg in the Goslar district of Lower Saxony completely white; The Brocken in Saxony-Anhalt was also covered in snow. Icy snowdrifts formed on railings. In addition, winter made its presence felt with snowfall in Saxony’s low mountain ranges. In the morning, up to five centimeters of new snow is said to have fallen above 600 meters, and even up to seven centimeters in jammed areas.
