I am the fruit of a popular culture which took off in the 90s and which has established itself over the decades as the dominant culture. Video games, cinema, manga, anime, comics, comics, literature, series… I am eager to learn and explore the imaginations available to me, regardless of the media.
HBO is a master in the art of keeping viewers glued to their sofas with extremely well-crafted plots as well as scenes that are quick to traumatize the most hardened. The Game of Thrones series has carved out a solid reputation in this area with The Red Wedding, but it's nothing compared to this passage from Dune: Prophecy. The trauma is real.
A scene more traumatic than the “Red Wedding”
Everyone who watched Game of Thrones still remembers watching episode 9 of season 3 years later. In “The Rains of Castamere”, the Stark family is massacred by the Fey family who are plotting revenge following Robb Stark's breaking of his oath. During this sequence passed down to posterity, several members of the Stark family are brutally murdered including Robb Stark, his wife Talisa Stark, his mother Lady Catelyn followed by the majority of bannermen and men-at-arms loyal to the Starks. As traumatic as this scene is, it pales in comparison to a staged murder in Dune: Prophecy.
At the very end of episode 1 of the new science fiction series produced by HBO, Desmond Hart – a survivor of the planet Arrakis played by Travis Fimmel (Warcraft, Vikings) – exchanges with young Pruwet Richese from the Big House of the same name. The child, saddened by the death of his mechanical animal, suddenly goes into convulsion, then turns dangerously red before finally burning up under the inquisitive eyes of the Emperor's mysterious soldier Javicco Corrino. The violence that emanates from this scene has a lasting impact, especially since it attacks a child whose skin is bubbling under the effect of a sort of spontaneous combustion whose origin will shortly be revealed. Little clue… Desmond Hart has not yet revealed his true nature.
