Sunday November 17, 2024, the Senegalese went to the polls for early legislative elections, in a climate that the Autonomous National Electoral Commission (CENA) describes as “calm, peaceful and serene”.
In its press release published at the end of this electoral day, the CENA praised the commitment of citizens who, from the opening of the offices at 8 a.m. until their closing at 6 p.m., fulfilled their civic duty with exemplary spirit. “The Senegalese have once again demonstrated their unwavering attachment to democratic principles,” said the commission.

The defense and security forces, mobilized in all voting centers, also received tributes from the CENA for their decisive role in maintaining order and serenity.
The candidates, their supporters, as well as the representatives were also congratulated for their civic-mindedness and their democratic spirit. Their exemplary behavior allowed a transparent counting of votes, without notable incidents.

Finally, the CENA expressed its gratitude to the national and international electoral observation missions. According to their preliminary reports, the vote took place in conditions consistent with democratic standards, thus consolidating Senegal’s position among the “major democracies”.
With impeccable organization and a peaceful climate, these early elections reaffirm the political maturity of the country and strengthen its democratic model in Africa and beyond. The expected outcome is now the official proclamation of the results, marking a turning point in the recent political history of Senegal.
