The Italian coach analyzes the defeat against France: “This bad evening must not take away the certainties we have acquired”
Stopped. Motionless. Pensive. With his gaze fixed into space. Thinking about what could have been and wasn’t. Luciano Spalletti gives himself up to analysis a few minutes after Milan’s defeat (1-3) against France and the consequent second place. “If you go in and immediately score a goal from a set piece it becomes difficult. We weren’t good today because we tried to force the game, spending a lot of energy. The rest was a bit random, with all set pieces. At 2-1 it seemed that there was more balance and that we could manage it, but then they scored the third goal and closed in and it became difficult to find space.” And again: “What created the most problems for us was the lack of clean play with the midfielders, we allowed them to close in. We needed more quality in the ball possession phase, we weren’t good at finding spaces.” Finally: “The balance is certainly positive, we saw the commitment of the boys and the good things. This defeat creates some problems, but it must not take away the certainties we have acquired”.

It’s up to Cambiaso, scorer of the only Italian goal: “In the second half, apart from the goal, they didn’t create any problems for us. It’s a shame about the result against France, but the performance was great today too. After the European Championship, the balance is positive, we must continue like this.”
