Several slowdowns and blockages are already underway on Sunday evening. Dozens of tractors converged on the N118, in Yvelines, an action extended to more than 80 departments.
Coming from all over Île-de-France, farmers massively took over the Nationale 118, in Yvelines, around 7 p.m., Sunday November 17. Several dozen tractors are blocking the major road. They are determined to make their anger heard, although surrounded by an impressive police force. They denounce their working conditions and the Mercosur free trade agreement. “What will be imported from Argentina or Brazil, we are able to produce it in France, and in better conditions, with a much higher health quality”explains David Lavenant, cereal grower in Neauphle-le-Vieux (Yvelines).
A few hours earlier, another farmer, François Lecoq, confided to France Télévisions his fear of seeing French agriculture disappear. “We don't bring all the forces at once to the start, because we know that we will continue with continuity.“, he warns.
The agricultural world is remobilizing everywhere in France. When they are not disrupting traffic, farmers cover the signs in small towns. On their signs, powerful messages to challenge the French and hope to rally them to their cause.
