Drama last night on a Tarn road. A car crashed into a tree this Sunday in Gaillac, west of Albi. Its five occupants died, informs France Bleu.
The accident occurred around 4:30 a.m. on Departmental 988, firefighters explained to regional radio. According to the mayor of the town, the car crashed into a plane tree and caught fire. An occupant, aged 20, was ejected from the vehicle. In cardio-respiratory arrest when help arrived, he could not be resuscitated, writes actu.fr. The prefecture indicated to local media that this young person is the only victim to have been identified mid-morning on Sunday.
The other four occupants died in the burning car. Firefighters put out the fire.
According to La Dépêche du Midi, the victims were in a rental Renault Captur. The accident took place 200 m from a roundabout, after a slight curve. The ejected man was found 20 m from the car.
The hypothesis of excessive speed is being considered, writes the regional daily. Only one vehicle would be involved, explains the Albi prosecutor's office which has opened an investigation.
