Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.
The Spurs played well last night against the Lakers, but Anthony Davis showed why he’s a superstar and he propelled Los Angeles to a 5 point win over the Spurs in both teams’ first NBA Cup game of the season. The Spurs are so far winless in the in-season tournament now in its second year. But tonight they play on a standard court against Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks.
The Mavs are 5-7 and are a little disappointing this early in the season after making the finals last year and adding Klay Thompson to the lineup. and are currently on a 4 game losing streak. Key players like Kyrie Irving have been missing games and the Mavs have lost a lot of close contests. Tonight they have a rest advantage on the Spurs and with Victor Wembanyama banging knees with Davis last night, the Silver and Black could be at a big disadvantage. It will be interesting to see if the good guys can have another solid game and compete against the Mavs, or if tonight’s game will be a replay of the opening night contest where the Mavs cruised to an easy 120-109 win. Let’s watch and find out.
