Dominik Szoboszlai was visibly upset during Hungary’s UEFA Nations League game against the Netherlands, after Hungarian coach Adam Szalai appeared to collapse. The match was abruptly halted around the seven-minute mark as concerned Hungarian players and coaches called for medical assistance. UEFA officials were spotted ushering medics towards the away dugout.
As a hush descended over the stadium, a tent was erected around the Hungary bench where Szalai was receiving treatment. Visibly moved Liverpool forward Szoboszlai gathered his teammates into a huddle while officials deliberated on the next steps.
The Hungarian Football Association’s official X account later confirmed that former Stuttgart and Basel striker Szalai had been taken to hospital.

“Ádám Szalai fell ill in the first minutes of the Netherlands-Hungary match, but his condition is stable and he is conscious,” a statement read. “Minutes ago, he was transported by ambulance to an Amsterdam hospital for examination.”
Szoboszlai, who was captaining his national side in the match, was playing against three of his Liverpool teammates – Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo, who were all in the starting line-up for the Dutch team.
The Liverpool midfielder and fellow captain Van Dijk spoke to the referee before it was agreed that play would continue at the Johan Cruyff Arena. The Reds teammates could be seen sharing a touching embrace as the action got back underway.
